It may not be your big day, but that doesn't mean you can't look fabulous! Every wedding at The Court showcases a stunning array of styles, colours, and sharply dressed guests. We're here to inspire anyone unsure about what to wear and provide all the details for choosing the perfect outfit to match the dress code.
So whether you've been invited to a celebration here at Elmore or are trying to choose the perfect dress attire for your magical day, this journal is for you!
Formal
A very popular choice indeed!
A close contender to black-tie but with a bit more freedom. The main difference is the suit choice, instead of your traditional tuxedo, men have more variety with a dark suit, white shirt, and a conservative tie. A Tuxedo is optional... as technically, formal is another word for "black-tie optional."
For the gals, think between cocktail and black-tie. Ideally a floor-length gown or jumpsuit, but you can be a bit more inventive with fabrics & colours... the world is your oyster! (Just don't wear white.)
Black-Tie
We often see a black-tie dress code around the festive season, it adds a classic and timeless feel to the day.
Although it's present in its name, black tie does not mean you must wear black although traditionally men should wear a black tuxedo and a bow tie. When it comes to dresses, think full-length evening dresses and luxurious fabrics like silk, lace and velvet. Dark, winter-inspired colours often work well with the dress code.
Cocktail
Think formal... just more casual!
You'll have a variety of dresses, jumpsuits or pantsuits to pick from. Summer dresses are a perfect example, simple fabric, fun colours and shorter in length. Traditionally, cocktail dresses were restricted to knee-length but times have changed & your options are diverse.
For the men, try to have a similar approach as you would for a formal style but with little restrictions on suit, tie & shirt colours and a more relaxed fit.
Casual
Perfect for those Summer celebrations!
A comfortable & relaxed style for ease of dancing and partying. Although we're talking casual, avoid jeans, shorts & t-shirts. For men, think of a fancy dinner abroad! A relaxed shirt, smart trousers & loafers. Dresses & ladies' outfits can be similar to a cocktail dress with a more relaxed feel or a work-style outfit.
Special Requests
Probably the most fun of them all!
If you're reading this and thinking... 'Not sure these styles suit us/our day.' Then you may want to incorporate something a bit more personal and innovative into your celebration... It is your day after all.
Maybe pink is your favourite colour and you'd love nothing more than for your guests to show up in their finest pink suit. We loved one of our couples throwing a masquerade-themed reception, with black-tie outfits, the masks added even more elegance!
Or perhaps, you're tying the knot over the Christmas period and are a huge festive fan and want your loved ones to show up in their finest Christmas colours.
There really are so many options and we just love seeing these specific dress codes come to life.
There's such a vast variety of dress codes... Ones we haven't even mentioned!
We find our most popular dress code here at The Court being formal or black-tie during the Winter months. Of course, the priority is to make sure you’re confident in your attire. But we're sure, whatever the code & whatever you wear... you're going to look fab!
Love always,
Team E xx
